FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 3, 2013

The Convention Center Authority announced this morning that the Music City Center generated over $26 million in economic impact in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2014 - the first full quarter of the center's operation.

The Music City Center hosted 29 events with 22,245 attendees in July. These events generated 12,724 room nights for a total of $18.7 million in economic impact. In August, the center hosted 39 events with 17,534 in attendance, 1,424 in total room nights and $2.3 million in economic impact. September followed with 32 events, bringing in 22,346 attendees, 4,603 room nights, and $5.4 million in economic impact. Tax collections continue to outperform projections and the Music City Center portion of tax collections was up 12.7 percent year over year for July 2013.

"We've been very fortunate to have the opportunity to host events for numerous groups in the community, most recently the NAACP's 40th Annual Freedom Fund Gala and the Nashville Downtown Partnership's Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon," said Charles Starks, President/CEO of the Music City Center. "We have been very busy but our team has done a great job adjusting to the high demand that this building has created and things are running very smoothly."

The Music City Center opened on time May 20, after 38 months of construction. Starks says the coming months will continue to be very busy with national and regional conventions and events for local organizations, following the trend set in early months of operation.
