Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
Under the direction of the President/CEO, this position assists in planning, organizing, and coordinating all programs, functions, and activities of the Convention Center Authority to fulfill the mission of the MCC. Direct reports include the Director of Event Services, Director of Security, Director of Parking, Director of Technology, Director of Facilities, Guest Experience/Sustainability Manager, and an Operations/Sales Assistant.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the MCC, including customer service and satisfaction, team member and policy administration, management of supplier partners, and overall building operations.
- Assist the President/CEO in planning, implementing, directing, and managing all functions and resources of the department to achieve the strategic objectives of the CCA in an efficient and effective manner.
- Assist President/CEO in the day-to-day operations of all departments and act in the President/CEO's absence by attending meetings, making decisions, and providing department leadership.
- Assist the President/CEO with implementing the MCC vision and assists in leading the department for maximum team member productivity and morale through hiring, disciplining, evaluating team member performance, investigating, and resolving grievances, and other human resource actions.
- Develops and administers the MCC budget with staff assistance.
- Develops, implements, reviews, and evaluates staff department policies, projects, and programs.
- Analyzes organization and community needs, analyzes trends, reviews statistics and opportunities, and communicates information to the President/CEO.
- Develops strategic partnership and contacts with community representatives, external agencies, and other organizations to develop a sense of relevant issues facing our community and to respond as a representative of the MCC.
- Ensures that MCC operations conform with local, state, and federal government regulations, worker safety, and other applicable rules and requirements.
- Maintains professional knowledge through such means as attending industry conferences and seminars, reviewing professional publications, and joining industry-related organizations.
- Develops and maintains budgetary control and short-term/long-term goals for the department, including management of capital projects and other special projects as required.
- Preparation/monitoring of contractual services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from a four-year accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration fields is preferred.
- A minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in the operation of a public assembly facility, including four years of high-level supervisory and administrative experience or any equivalent combination of relevant training or experience. Convention hotel AGM or GM experience may also be considered.
- Experience in contract negotiation, business law, purchasing procedures, and supervising personnel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Must be organized, able to anticipate problems, and able to implement immediate corrective action.
- Must have demonstrative knowledge of the principles and practices used in the successful management of entertainment or convention facilities.
- Must have considerable knowledge of event solicitation and event planning.
- Considerable knowledge of safety regulations.
- Effective supervisory skills.
